The concept of Green Building has long been advocated by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). However, it was post-COVID that Gujarat’s real estate sector witnessed an unprecedented surge in green buildings, with a remarkable 91 registrations between January and March this year, dwarfing the 93 registrations recorded for the entirety of the previous year.
The pandemic appears to have presented a silver lining for builders and investors alike. Sameer Sinha, the former chairman of IGBC, revealed how real estate developers have begun taking a keen interest in adopting green building practices. They have come to the realization that these eco-friendly approaches not only benefit the environment but also prove to be highly cost-effective. In fact, the operational costs of Green buildings are approximately 40% lower than traditional buildings, leading to substantial savings for stakeholders.
