Cricket is stepping beyond the boundary to champion a life-saving cause. The BCCI and ICC have announced an organ donation awareness initiative, “Donate Organs, Save Lives,” set to launch during the third ODI between India and England at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on the 12th of February.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the power of sport in creating meaningful impact. “One pledge, one decision, can save multiple lives. Let’s come together and make a difference!” he urged.
To amplify the message, top Indian cricketers including Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, and Rishabh Pant appeared in a BCCI video, encouraging fans to pledge their organs. “Score the ultimate century, your organs can help others live beyond your lifetime. Register as a donor and make every life count,” Kohli said.
With an expected packed stadium and millions of viewers at home, the initiative aims to inspire pledges and spark conversations about organ donation.
