Knocksense Shorts | 35 illegal constructions to razed down by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation

Somya Agarwal

Earlier last year, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) announced the New Impact Fee Scheme, with a fixed application deadline of June 16. As part of the scheme, the AMC received almost 35,000 applications for regularising illegal constructions. So far, it has reviewed 10,000 applications and approved only 656, which are mostly from residential properties.

The regularisation process for commercial properties is more challenging, as builders must provide 50% of the required parking space and obtain no objection certificates from authorities such as the airport and heritage department.

Meanwhile, now that the prescribed period to apply for the New Impact Fee Scheme has ended, AMC Chief has ordered zonal officers to identify the five largest illegal constructions and demolish them within a week. Ahmedabad has 7 zones, which equals to a total of 35 properties to be razed down.
