The implementation of the latest green mobility projects has ushered in an attractive offer for Goans. As per the project, the citizens of the state can now get electricity-powered eco-friendly bikes at subsidised costs by disposing of their old two-wheelers run by petrol or diesel. The state's Minister for Power & Coal announced on Thursday, that the government is deliberating upon a green power policy that would facilitate the removal of motorcycles run by non-renewable sources of energy.

Proposed entry of 10,000 to 15,000 electric two-wheelers

According to reports, the state government is holding communications with Hero Motors for purchasing around 10,000 to 15,000 e-vehicles. These two-wheelers shall be offered at reduced prices to individuals who formally destroy and get rid of their petrol-run bikes. Additionally, the state administration is also working on measures to set up charging stations across the length of Goa for facilitating the users of e-bikes.

Stating that the original cost of e-vehicles was too high for the economically-constrained ordinary man, the minister added that the government was in process of evaluating a finalised price. The new price would be an aggregated sum, taking into consideration the group of subsidies offered by the state and the central government in addition to the manufacturer's discount. This summated price for buying shall be available to only those individuals who swap their old bike run by fossil fuels.

E-vehicles would lower the cost of functioning

The minister also mentioned that the Chief Minister of the state, had already swapped his car with an e-vehicle to understand the possibility of its widespread usage. It is estimated that the cost shall be lowered significantly, if the government's official fleet of 550 cars is replaced by electric vehicles. While the large scale implementation of the electric two-wheelers is awaited, the central government is already a part of consultations to explore the options of using electric technology for auto-rickshaws, taxis, goods carriers and so on.
