Marking a remarkable victory against the pandemic, all eligible citizens have been vaccinated in Goa’s Surla village. Reportedly, a health official informed on Monday that Surla, located in Sattari Taluka has triumphed in becoming the first village from the coastal state, to register 100% vaccinations. According to records, 50.7% of the state’s total entitled population have been given the first jab of the immunity booster vaccine.
Offline vaccination propel the drives in the village
Notably, the Valpoi Community Health Centre officials played an important role in ensuring the cent percent coverage of the vaccination program in the village. As per reports, the in-charge of the centre apprised that his team visited every house in the village, in a bid to make sure each individual had access to the vaccination drive. Surveying through the homes situated on the top of the hill, the team of officials asked all non-vaccinated citizens to attend the camp on Sunday.
It is noteworthy that Surla stands at a distance of 50 Km from Valpoi and is 76 Km away from Goa’s capital city, Panjim. Reportedly, the health centre in charge stated that the unavailability of internet facilities in Surla, became a hurdle for the online registration process on the Cowin platform. Thereby, the current success has been achieved through offline drives in the state.
Over 200 beneficiaries vaccinated on Sunday
As per reports, more than 200 people were vaccinated on Sunday while some others had already received their jabs during the Tika Utsav campaigns. Now, the village is completely safeguarded against the virus from the vaccination point of view. Despite this, COVID appropriate behaviour is the need of the times given the uncertainties and the emergence of new variants.
