Additional COVID-19 curbs imposed in Goa until May 10 in wake of COVID surge

Goa Government on Tuesday, imposed additional COVID-19 curbs across village panchayats and districts, to keep the coronavirus infection rise in check. The coastal state observed a 4-day lockdown that concluded on May 3, however, strict restrictions were ordained here for another week, till May 10. While the administration had listed the guidelines earlier, on Tuesday, it extended the scope of the prohibitions, to include non-essential services also. As per reports, restaurants too, have been allowed only for home delivery, instead of the earlier permitted operations at 50% capacity.

In wake of the alarming rise in the COVID-19 cases in Goa, the state government has decided to modify the restrictive guidelines here to include non-essential services and restaurant operations, under its ambit. Reportedly, certain regions in the state were following a voluntary lockdown and to eliminate the scope of confusion, the state modified its earlier orders to include additional curbs, effective across the state. At the same time, the CM has strictly warned all panchayats to not close any essential services under the guise of a voluntary 'lockdown'.

While various establishments have been shut here, essential workers need to report to their duties and other curbs related to the lockdown, remain unaltered. Tourist activities, recreational zones such as casinos, sports complexes, auditoriums, community halls and so on, will remain completely shut. River cruises, water parks, entertainment parks, gyms, spas, massage parlours and saloons are also included in this list.

All education institutions, schools and colleges will remain shut, however, examinations will continue as per schedule. The order also read that all religious establishments will be closed for the public as well.
