FTII announces free courses for persons with disabilities at 53rd IIFI in Goa

With an objective to make art accessible to all and to empower Persons with Disabilities (PwD), the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune has announced two special courses as a part of 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa. The courses come under its Centre for Open Learning (CFOL) initiative, National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG)

The eight-day-long, offline courses will be offered during the IFFI festival, scheduled to be held in Panjim between Nov 21-28.

Course in smartphone filmmaking for autistic individuals

This special course will be curated by Ajmal Jami, a reputed professional in the field of visual communication. The course will feature diverse modules including the basics of shooting and editing video footage on smartphones.

This will be coupled with sessions introducing different languages of cinema. Moreover, a screening and review session will also be organized at the end of the module.

Course in screen acting for wheelchair users

This particular course in screen acting catered to individuals in wheelchairs will be helmed by Jijoy P. R., a renowned theatre artist, film actor, trainer and producer. Also, he holds the position of the Dean in charge (Film) and Associate Professor, Acting at FTII, Pune.

The special highlights of the 6 module course include an introduction to Natyashastra followed by acting games and sense awareness games. Furthermore, the course will lay a special emphasis on the Hasya rasa or comedy.

Candidates for both free courses will be selected on a first-come-first-serve basis and the registrations are open till November 13, 6 PM. More details about the eligibility and venue for the courses can be found here.
