Contributing to India's observance of the International Year of Millets, 2023. As per this initiative, the Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) of Indore will now incorporate millet-based dishes in the menu offered at its hostels. The objective behind this decision is to raise awareness about the nutritional and environmental benefits of millets, and to promote a healthier lifestyle.

With this initiative, DAVV is set to become the first government university in Madhya Pradesh to include millets on its menu. Moreover, the millet-based dishes will also be featured in the menu for various events organized by DAVV.

DAVV administration will add at least one millet dish to the daily hostel menu

By introducing millet-based dishes to the hostel menu, DAVV aims to encourage students to adopt a healthier and more sustainable diet while contributing to the cause of millet promotion. Incidentally, the administration will add at least one millet dish either in the lunch or dinner of the hostellers, for this the university authorities are in talks with the mess operators.

For centuries, millets have constituted a crucial component of our dietary habits. These grains offer a multitude of health benefits, have a high nutritional value and are also environmentally sustainable due to their low water and input requirements.

The nationwide efforts and initiatives for spreading awareness and for the promotion of millet-based food are in line with the United Nations General Assembly's declaration at its 75th session, which designated 2023 as the International Year of Millets.
