According to the officials, the main reason behind the rapid spread of dengue is the poor sanitisation practices including the waterlogged within and around people's home. Talking about the same, Dr B S Setiya- Chief Medical and Health Officer said, "People should not let water stagnate around them in which dengue larvae grow. Till now, one thousand people have become victims of dengue, even today 21 new cases have come in which 10 are children. At present, there are 28 active dengue cases in the district, out of which 15 are being treated in hospitals,"

As per the statements issued by the experts on Friday, pregnant women are more vulnerable to unfavourable pregnancy if they get infected with dengue. According to gynaecologists, if an expecting mother gets dengue, the risk of growth restriction increases for the foetus. Apart from this, complications due to dengue might also lead to a pre-term birth, low birthweight and foetal distress.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection, caused by a virus of the Flaviviridae family. There are four distinct serotypes of the virus- DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3 and DENV-4., DENV-2 is said to be the most fatal type of dengue virus. This viral disease spreads through the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which is also responsible for chikungunya, yellow fever and Zika virus infections. One can steer clear from all such viral infections by preventing mosquito breeding and protecting oneself from mosquito bites. Moreover, the authorities need to undertake vector-control measures while raising awareness regarding the disease and its preventive measures.
