The Madhya Pradesh government has ramped up efforts to make its commercial capital, Indore, a 'beggar free' city. With a novel agenda of the Beggar Rehabilitation Programme under wraps, the state and district authorities aim to provide accommodation to the homeless, needy and beggars living in the city. Other facilities such as food, clothes and health check-ups will also be provided to the rehabilitated individuals.

In a meeting on Tuesday, the District Magistrate addressed officials to chalk out an effective plan to impose the initiatives of the Beggars Rehabilitation Programme. He also pointed out how the programme will extend to make proper arrangements for the people involved in begging.

The primary focus of the initiative will be to rescue the people caught in beggar rackets, providing them facilities beyond just rehabilitation. In addition to the state's programme and district planning, the District Magistrate has sought the help of people by listing how people can contribute to the cause.

He mentioned that the effort to make the city beggar-free can only be achieved if the common public contributes to it. Therefore, voluntary organisations and NGOs should give suggestions for a holistic approach and a fruitful outcome.
