Rajasthan government has decided to set up a Transgender Protection Cell (TPC) which shall aim at preventing crimes against the community. A statement regarding this was released on Wednesday, which stated that this cell will function from the office of the Director-General of Police (DGP). This initiative has been taken up by the state government in an attempt to safeguard the interests of the transgender community.

It has been reported that the Chief Minister has decided to constitute a Transgender Protection Cell and has approved the proposal put up by the Finance Department for the same. As per the proposal, a total of six police personnel- including a police inspector, a sub-inspector, two constables, a counsellor or psychological counsellor and a data entry operator, will work in the cell on a contract basis.
These posts are newly created and will be temporarily effective, from the date of issue of the order to February 2022. The officials assigned to this vertical shall coordinate between the State-level Transgender Justice Board and the District Transgender Justice Committee to protect the rights of the people hailing from this spanning community.
Further, if required, a representative of the transgender community may be invited as a non-official and honorary member. Operating from the office of the apex police authority of the state, this cell has been constituted under the Protection of Rights of Transgenders Act-2019.
