Visibility is an important parameter for monitoring aviation operations. To get real-time updates on visibility for the upcoming winter season, the Regional Meteorological Centre has installed a new Runway Visual Range System at Jaipur Airport (JAI).

Reportedly, there were three sites at the Jaipur International Airport where this system was planned to be installed. The first one was installed on the runway in January, second one in June. Two systems are placed at the ends of the runway and one in the middle to facilitate maximum coverage.

The systems run on forward scattering technique which can detect sudden change in visibility with high accuracy and give real-time information to the ATC, which further passes on the details to the pilots.
