Knocksense Staff

Jaipur as a city has something interesting to offer everyone. The city is vibrant, has a rich past and is a well visited tourist spot. Heritage monuments in the city are currently in a bad shape and since Jaipur is on the path to becoming a smart city, the people must respect these monuments as well. As part of this, the JSCL is renovating several such heritage sights and now, the expected date for completion of the work has been postponed. Jaipurites will have to wait if they wish to visit the heritage sights within the walled city.

What’s the update?

The walled city in Jaipur is more happening than you may think. It has at least nine small markets and narrow lanes with several heritage sights splattered all across. These sights include a variety of old age paintings and carvings, which are now being renovated and undergoing restoration. This process will take more time than expected and tourists as well as locals will have to wait until the work is complete.

As of now, the JSCL, which is heading this project has said that the restoration process should take a couple of weeks more. Over time, the above mentioned places in the walled city have undergone major decay and due to eons of neglect, they are in a bad shape.

The facts

The restoration process in itself is a long and tiring process. As part of this, several paintings have to be redone, while keeping the age old essence of it, structures have weakened and they will need to be properly restored.

The authorities have taken the required steps and precautions so as to not disturb the actual look and feel of the walled city. Though they will refill cracked walls and redo the paintings, they have kept in mind to not modernize or change the essence of the structure in any way. At its core, the renovation project is being done mainly so as to make it a better tourist destination and also to preserve the vibrant history of this culture rich city.

At any rate, the restoration of these historical artefacts is a great step in the right direction. This way, Jaipur can continue it’s path to becoming developed while still keeping in touch with its roots.
