With an aim to improve policing in Kanpur, the state government approved the formation of four police stations at Jajmau, Rawatpur, Hanumant Vihar and Gujaini. These new additions will be added to the list of 34 police stations under the jurisdiction of Kanpur Police Commissionerate (KPC). The move is aimed at further public security, especially for women and children in these areas, boosting surveillance and increasing a check on criminal activity.

Increased vigil & safe environment

Earlier this year, KPC had reportedly sent a proposal to the state government to approve the formation of 7 new police stations in the city. After which, the state govt approved the formation of 4 out of 7 proposed thanas. A partial approval by the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi for the 4 thanas is in order.

As per the officials, the new establishments will come up as Jajmau police station in Chakeri, Rawatpur police station in Kalyanpur, Hanumant Vihar police station in Naubasta and Gujaini police station in Barra. The land for these stations has already been allocated.

These police stations will be an addition to the already existing thana at Chakeri, Kalyanpur, Naubasta and Barra. The new plan of action, aims to divide the scope of jurisdiction for better vigil. Sources suggest that the decision has been taken in wake of the increasing population in these regions.

The new police stations will help create a formal system of order in the new colonies. Additionally, it would also increase the connectivity between people at the grass root level and the government.
