Keeping in mind the safety of women commuters in Kanpur, designated Pink Autos will soon be seen operating throughout the city. In order to provide convenience to the passengers and increase women employment, the Regional Transport Authority has decided to launch pink autos in Kanpur. The autos will be painted pink and will be driven by women drivers.

100 Pink autos to be permitted in the first phase

Reportedly, a committee will be formed under the chairmanship of ACM 6, comprising Assistant Regional Transport Officers (ARTOs) from Traffic, Women Welfare and Transport Department, to carry out the pink plan.

Once more compressed natural gas (CNG) pumps are set up in the city, eligible female applicants will be selected by the committee through a lottery system. In the first phase, 100 permits will be issued for only the women and their family members, who will be able to travel in these autos.

The pink plan

As per rough estimates, around 45,000 to 50,000 women commute daily in Kanpur by public transport. The pink autos are expected to provide a sense of security to these women.
