In view of the soaring rise of COVID infections in Lucknow, a significant part of Kanpur's oxygen quota was diverted to aid the state capital's condition. Consequently, Kanpur witnessed a dreadful shortage of oxygen supply which claimed the lives of several infected patients, worsening the infection impact on Sunday.

The issue soon escalated and was brought to the concerned Nodal Officer's notice, post which oxygen was provided to a few patients and the condition persisted as a uniform phenomenon across several city hospitals. In the last 24 hours, various treatment centres also have reported no oxygen backup. It is believed that this might be a stark contributor to the rising virus toll in the city.

The situation was soon appraised to the attention of the CMO, who directed to make arrangements to tackle the roadblock. With the help of the Health Department Commissioner, soon a capsule was made available for the city's help. This will now help to stock up the hospitals' requirements, aiding a renewed and stronger defence against the pandemic. As yet, there are 11,446 active patients in Kanpur while 942 have succumbed to the virus attack.
