Active caseload cross the 1000-mark in Kanpur on Tuesday; fresh guidelines issued

Amid the intensifying threat of COVID in Kanpur, where the cases have breached the 1000 mark, the authorities have issued new guidelines. In an attempt to curb and contain the spread of infection in the city, these guidelines have been put into effect, immediately. Read on to check the guidelines here.

Gyms, swimming pools & water parks closed until further notice

In line with the guidelines issued by the state government, all swimming pools, water parks and gyms have been closed across the city until further notice. Additionally, all restaurants, hotels, cinema halls are allowed to operate at 50% capacity. An 8-hour night curfew from 10 PM to 6 AM will continue to remain effective in the city as well.

Apart from this, the authorities have released a toll-free number for any COVID-related query in the city. For any pandemic-related issue, people can call on 1800-180-5159 for assistance.

IIT Kanpur becomes a COVID hotspot

With a 4.06% positivity rate, Kanpur marked a hike in fresh cases on Monday by reporting 57. Apart from the spike in infection, the first case of COVID-related fatality of the year was also recorded on Monday. With five recoveries marked in the city on the same day, the tally of total recoveries in Kanpur has climbed to 69,663 patients.

Notably, after the convocation ceremony held on December 28, the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur has become a hotspot of COVID in the city. So far, 97 people have tested positive for this viral disease at IIT Kanpur, alone.

Amid the rising COVID cases across the country, Uttar Pradesh has also witnessed a surge in infection in the last 10 days. According to reports, the active case count of coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh has crossed 25,000-mark as of Monday.

With 2022 assembly elections just a month away, the state has been recording an exponential rise in COVID cases. While the single-day case count in UP stood at 552 last Sunday, with around 13 times growth, the toll crossed the 7000-mark this Sunday.
