Currently, Kanpur Airport is home to just one terminal, however considering the growth in passenger traffic, Airport Authority of India (AAI) is adding another terminal to the city’s domestic airport. Along with a new terminal, the airport will also have a increased apron space and car parking for 150 cars. Equipped with modern amenities, the terminal will have eight check-in counters and conveyor belts for arriving passengers at an overall budget cost of ₹143.6 crore.

Currently, Kanpur Airport is directly connected with four cities- Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Gorakhpur.

New Terminal inspired by Kanpur’s JK Temple

Kanpur being the commercial capital of Uttar Pradesh and a hub for leather, attracts a large number of air travellers from across India. Following which, Airport Authority of India (AAI) has undertaken development of one more terminal at the Kanpur Airport.

Built in an approximate area of 6248 sqm, the new terminal of the civil enclave will be designed to process 300 passengers during the peak hours. The Four-Star GRIHA rated energy efficient building with sustainable features will also reflect local art and heritage inspired by city’s famous JK Temple.

The development project is proposed to be completed by December 31, 2022.

More apron space for maneuvering planes

According to AAI officials, the development project also includes construction of a new airplane apron, suitable for parking three A-321 aircraft. An Airbus 321 is a medium range, twin engine jet aircraft, enough to carry 185 to 236 passengers.

Additionally, a parking space has also been planned, which can house 150 cars at the new terminal.
