With reduced requirements of oxygen and cleared queues at the plants and refilling centres, the situation seems to be gradually improving in Kanpur. Reportedly, the demand for LMO has lowered from 125 tonnes to 50 tonnes in a period of just 12 days. As per reports, 18,800 active patients were receiving treatment for the COVID infection on April 29 and the number has dropped by more than half over the past two weeks.

While the hospitals witnessed amplified demands for oxygen, a number of home quarantined patients also had needed it. Now, with a nearly manageable count of active patients, the oxygen crisis seems to be resolving. Simultaneously, two trains have delivered 55 and 40 tonnes of oxygen stocks to Kanpur in the past 3 days. In addition to this, some plants are involved in oxygen production and the gas is not being used in other industries, currently. Together, these factors have been conducive to reviving stability in the oxygen market.

Oxygen Cylinder requirements at various plants fall by over 50%

Reportedly, the demands for oxygen refilling at Chaman Plant located in Dadanagar have reduced by more than 50% from 500-700 vessels to 250-200, over the past two weeks. Additionally, the requirements have dipped considerably at the Murari Oxygen Plant, Hariom Gas Plant and Panki Gas Plant. Despite the availability of gas, people are still finding it difficult to procure oxygen cylinders because a lot of citizens have hoarded the vessels anticipating unpredicted circumstances in the future.
