Kanpur Metro Phase 2: Work on 3-km stretch from Kanpur Central to Transport Nagar begins

Kanpur Central, Jhakarkati and Transport Nagar Metro station will be part of the underground section of Corridor- 1.

The construction of Kanpur Metro successfully entered phase 2 on Friday. As per the reports, work on the 3-km long stretch from Kanpur Central to Transport Nagar was inaugurated by Managing Director, Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC), Kumar Keshav. Officials informed that this line will stretch as the underground section of Corridor-1 from IIT-K to Naubasta.

D-wall cage lowered at Jhakarkati Metro Station

Going by reports, a Bhoomi poojan ceremony was also conducted in Kanpur on Friday. After this, a D-wall cage was lowered at Jhakarkati Metro Station to mark the onset of the work. As stated in the action plan, Phase 2 of Kanpur Metro will include the construction of three underground stations, at Kanpur Central, Jhakarkati and Transport Nagar.

Reportedly, the construction of the underground section has already started between Chunniganj and Nayaganj. With the new phase starting now, MD Kumar Keshav has expressed his belief in the pace and vision of the project.

The Kanpur Metro Master Plan 

As of now, Kanpur Metro operates only the Priority Corridor, a single 9-km elevated section of the Corridor-1 (IIT-K to Motijheel). However, the overall line is 23-km long, stretching from IIT-K to Naubasta. Work on this has been divided into two phases to implement simultaneous developments.

Phase one comprises the construction of Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha and Nayaganj Metro Stations while phase 2 will include the construction of Kanpur Central, Jhakarkati, and Transport Nagar Metro Stations.
