Civic authorities in Kanpur have signed a pact with the Indian Institute of Management-Indore, to develop Kanpur district, under the smart city initiative. Reportedly, IIM-Indore, Kanpur Smart City Limited (KSCL), Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) and Kanpur Police Commissionerate together entered into an MoU for fueling the city’s progress. Under this scheme, the “Indore model” of cleanliness will be executed for developing Kanpur as a cosmopolitan industrial centre.
A move to enhance the quality of life for the city residents
Planned to be operational for a period of 3 years, the project will help in enhancing the quality of life for the city residents. As a part of the plans, the public spaces will be decongested through the re-arrangement of street vendors from undesignated spots and measures will also be undertaken to improve road traffic movements.
Reportedly, Kanpur Division Municipal Commissioner and the head of KSCL and KDA, Raj Shekhar, Police Commissioner Asim Arun and IIM (Indore) Director Prof.Himanshu were present during the signing of the pact.
Dynamic traffic monitoring to facilitate easier vehicular movements
As per reports, the “Indore model” of cleanliness will be executed in Kanpur in a bid to boost the city’s social and environmental ecosystem. Further, it will also help in developing the city as a major industrial centre. It has been reported that an expert panel from IIM-Indore, led by the institute’s director, will chalk out a plan for deployed a better and organised system for the street vendors.
Additionally, the road traffic will be monitored and controlled through dynamic Google satellite imaging. Further, it is expected that engineering interventions like construction and deconstruction may also be rolled out.
