The development of Kanpur's rapid transit system is currently underway with the construction of two corridors simultaneously. In the recent update, the Uttar Pradesh State Budget for 2024-25 allocated ₹395 crore for expanding Kanpur's metro network.

Notably, progress is noteworthy on both corridors, with a 9 km segment already operational on Corridor I. This corridor comprises 14 elevated and seven underground stations, serving the route between IIT and Naubasta. Phase 1 of Corridor I, linking IIT and Motijheel, has been operational since 2021.

Corridor II will span 8.38 kilometers from Chandrasekhar Azad Agriculture University to Barra-8. The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) aims to commence operations on both corridors by the end of 2025.
