The Indian Institute of Kanpur has yet again made a strong statement of its diversified expertise and excellence, beyond the scope of academics. Adding another accolade to his name, Professor Mukhesh Sharma has been appointed as an honorary member of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Global Air Pollution and Health-Technical Advisory Group (GAPH-TAG). This designation is offered to a select few across the globe and these TAG members are directly inducted by the Director-General of the WHO, communiqué issued by premier institute highlighted.

Professor Mukesh Sharma is an air quality expert, fraternised with the civil engineering department at IIT-Kanpur. Among the various accomplishments under his belt, he has consolidated rigorous research with policy engagement. His field proficiency will relay technical guidance and inputs via the WHO-TAG to support the Sustainable Development Goals undertaken by the Organisation. These primarily include SDG 3.9.1, 7.1.2 and 11.6.2 related to the fields of air pollution and health issues.
The Sustainable Development Goals is a set of 17 global goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015 to protect the planet and ensure peace and prosperity by 2030 for all. This agenda is synonymous with a wake-up call to end poverty and safeguard the planet, via various targets and missions.
Mr Mukesh Sharma is a fraternity member of the WHO, Geneva, International Council for Clean Transport, Clean Air Asia United National Environmental Program, Bangkok and the World Bank, read the communiqué issued by the institue. It elaborated that Professor Sharma will now be a part of the WHO advisory group on interventions and policies for air pollution control in 194 member states.
