Cultre, supported by Start-up Innovation and Incubation Centre (SIIC), an IIT-Kanpur incubatee, is all set to launch its second Heritage Olympiad on November 14. This nationwide competition aims to combine heritage with education in the conventional curriculum by making it more accessible to the students at school level. Notably, Heritage Olympiad is India’s first online olympiad on culture and heritage that aims to sensitise young minds to India’s rich and multi-faceted cultural heritage.

The first chapter of this Heritage Olympiad, which takes place twice a year- once on World Heritage Day and then on Children’s Day was launched on April 18, 2021. Last year, the event received over 2,500 registrations, by people belonging to the age groups ranging from 9 to 65 years. Besides, Cultre has received massive support from distinguished organisations as well. UNESCO, Amar Chitra Katha, National Rail Museum, Mehrangarh Museum Trust, Royal Opera House, Mumbai and many other noteworthy organisatons have partnered with Cultre for this initiative.

The primary objective of this Olympiad is to tailor the conceptual definitions around heritage education according to the Indian context. The module of the Olympiad is in sync with the syllabus and curriculum that is followed by major boards across the globe to make sure there is the development of a healthy perspective of Indian heritage.
In a release the Director of IIT Kanpur, Abhay Karandikar said, “SIIC has had a history of creating, supporting, and promoting technology and knowledge-intensive innovations that uphold the Indian heritage. Cultre’s Heritage Olympiad goes beyond just imparting knowledge around the subject — it also prompts people to learn about their country and its diverse history.”
Reportedly, the second edition of this Olympiad will pivot on passing on a preliminary understanding of the Indian heritage to the younger generation while focusing on the three main aspects of heritage- Tangible, Intangible and Natural.
