Accelerating its plans, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the trial runs of Kanpur Metro are initiated by the end of November 2021. As per the latest announcements, Kanpur Metro is all set to have the largest stock of trains and coaches in the state. While Lucknow currently has 21 trains with 4 coaches each, Kanpur has ordered 39 trains with 3 coaches each, which would total up to 117 compartments.
Construction works nearing completion at IIT, Kalyanpur and SPM stations
Out of the net aggregate of trains, 29 are supposed to run on the priority corridor while the remaining 10 shall be deployed on the other route. In its maiden run, the metro train shall be operational from IIT to Motijheel passing through eight stations. It is noteworthy that construction work at IIT, Kalyanpur and SPM stations is almost complete and finishing would be finalised soon. Station concourses, platforms and technical rooms have been built in these complexes.
As per the information given by the authorities, Kanpur will get its first set of metro trains from Gujarat in September. After the trial runs are successfully completed by the end of November, the metro trains shall be operational for general commuters from January 2021. It is to be noted that Agra plans to have 28 metro trains with 3 coaches each summing up to 84 chambers.
Managing Director inspects ongoing works of Kanpur Metro
Inspecting the metro depot being constructed at the Polytechnic, the Managing Director has instructed the authorities to develop empty spaces present in the campus into green zones. Additionally, he also directed the officials to finish the establishment of the receiving station before the designated deadline so that a sufficient power supply can be ensured. Through regular visits to the construction sites, the MD is assuring that no avoidable lags hamper the progress of the project.
Given the uncertain circumstances propelled by the COVID pandemic, the UPMRC’s commitment to deadlines is remarkable. If the successive initiatives are implemented at the same pace, Kanpur Metro would surely transform its dreams into reality. Expected to revamp the face of local transport, this rapid transit system would definitely usher in a bright future for the city of Kanpur.
