Lucknow will soon see the development of city's first 'Divyang Park' for people with disabilities (PwD). The park, based along the lines of that in Maharashtra's Nagpur, will encompass facilities aiding 21 types of disabilities. The venture is being developed to enable them to utilise the provisions without a caretaker.

The park will be spread over a two-and a-half-acre land and will comprise systems such as, sensors, and various gadgets, among others, that will support the PwD community.

A budget of ₹11 crore has been approved for the implementation of the same under the Smart City project by the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC).

Entry would be allowed only for the community

"The park will have gadgets, systems, sensors, sounds and mechanisms that will help the disabled to walk, dance, play, sit and listen to music or do whatever activities they wish to," an official stated.

The facility will be open for both children and adults and will offer facilities in education, recreation, sports, and entertainment. Moreover, experts will be present here to train children in personality development.

"The purpose is to give such people their own space. It would be the first of its kind in the state where only differently-abled children and persons will get entry. The guardians or caretakers will have to drop them at the entrance gate and wait in a waiting area developed for them," the official added.

Besides the above, there would a hall of fame present here that would showcase success stories of famous personalities with disabilities.
