The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for rain and thunderstorms across 22 districts in eastern Uttar Pradesh today, including Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, and other areas in the eastern and Terai regions. Additionally, from September 12 to 13, rainfall is expected to return to western Uttar Pradesh.

Senior scientist at Regional Meteorological Centre, Lucknow, stated that from September 11, the monsoon trough line will shift northwards again. This is expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall to the Terai region in the coming days.

Impact on Lucknow: Water-logging & traffic disruptions

In Lucknow, light rain began around midday on Monday and continued into the afternoon, resulting in waterlogging in several streets and neighbourhoods. This caused significant traffic congestion across the city. Although forecasts predicted only isolated light showers, substantial rainfall persisted through the afternoon. Even after the rain stopped, clouds lingered, bringing the temperature down by 2.7°C and making the weather more pleasant. Light drizzles are likely in Lucknow today, followed by a spell of humid heat. From Wednesday onwards, the weather is expected to remain dry.
