Chitrakoot to soon become a traffic-free getaway spot! When are you planning a trip, Lucknowites?

Khushbu Kirti

Following a bi-partite agreement between Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Madhya Pradesh (MP), the tourist hub Chitrakoot pilgrimage area is all set to become a ‘free-traffic zone’.

The decision was taken earlier this week at Central Zonal Council's meeting between four states, namely Uttarakhand, Chattisgarh, besides UP and MP.

This step also means that when your vehicle enters either of the state (UP or MP), you will not be required to pay the passenger tax at the borders. In short, people, give a worthy spot to the beautiful Chitrakoot tourist area on your bucket list now. We can smell a getaway trip in the air, citizens of Lucknow and Indore!

Life of tourists simplified

“The UP government had notified last year about making the area free of traffic for vehicles entering from the borders and now the MP government has notified it for the areas falling in its jurisdiction,” a state government spokesperson stated.

With the end of tax an traffic here (a step Chitrakoot seers have been demanding for a while), government officials predict an influx of tourists.

Roughly 238 kms away from Lucknow, Chitrakoot is renowned for numerous spots like Rajapur, Chitrakoot waterfall, Bharat Milap Temple, Sati Anusuiya Ashram, Kamadgiri Parvat, Bharatkup, Gupt Godavari, Ramghat, Sphatik Shila and more.

New projects underway

Chitrakoot tourist and pilgrimage area, that lies in both UP's Chitrakoot and MP's Satna, holds tremendous religious significance. Due to its name first being mentioned in Valmiki's Ramayana and it being Lord Rama's dwelling, tourists flock to the area for both religious and recreational purposes. It is also known for its breathtaking natural views, especially in the monsoon.

Numerous infrastructure projects in Chitrakoot are in the pipeline. While the UP's first table top airport, Chitrakoot Airport, will soon be inaugurated, the council will also be implementing a laser show and a digital gallery dedicated to Ramayana.
