India set a formidable total of 298 for 7 in the final, powered by an explosive 87 from Shafali Verma and a steady 58 from Deepti Sharma. In response, South Africa showed fight, led by captain Laura Wolvaardt’s valiant 101, but were ultimately dismissed for 246.

Deepti Sharma played a decisive all-round role, also claiming 5 wickets for 39 runs. Her performance in the tournament made history, as she became the first cricketer (male or female) to score over 200 runs and take more than 20 wickets in a single ODI World Cup.

India’s path to the final was marked by a stunning semi-final victory over defending champions Australia, where they successfully chased down a record target.
