Lucknow has been declared the third cleanest city in India in the Swachh Survekshan 2024 rankings. The city leapt 41 spots from last year’s 44th position. Ahmedabad secured the top rank, followed by Bhopal in second place.
The official announcement will be made on July 17 at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where President Droupadi Murmu will present awards. Lucknow Municipal Corporation will be honoured for its efforts.
From 2025, top-performing cities like Indore, Surat, and Navi Mumbai will no longer be included in the standard Swachh Survekshan rankings. Instead, they will be part of a newly expanded Swachhata Super League, a separate category recognising cities that have consistently ranked in the top three for three consecutive years.
While these 15 Super League cities, including Indore which held the No. 1 spot for seven years, will not receive a numerical rank. These cities will still be evaluated under a 12,500-point assessment system. This restructuring is intended to broaden the competition and give other cities a fairer opportunity to reach the top tier.
