In a bid to produce safer drivers, the UP administration will establish driver training institutes (DTIs) in 17 districts of the state. The institutes which will likely be ready by June of next year will provide training opportunities to hone the driving skills of the commuters.

Furthermore, a specialized Institute for Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR) will also come up in Rae Bareli which will likely be inaugurated by the end of the year.

DTIs to be established in 14 UP districts by June 2023

The DTIs which will be equipped with high end facilities have been sanctioned by the government in 14 other districts including Lucknow and Kanpur. For this, the government has already floated tenders for the bidders. It is further expected that these 14 DTIs will be ready by June 2023.

Following the establishment of DTIs during the initial phase, the state government is also planning to establish similar institutes in 58 other districts which will be carried out through a public-private partnership (PPP) model. Reportedly, the State Transport Authority (STA) has already called in private sector applicants for the establishment of DTIs.

The IDTR, which has been sanctioned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) will be the first-of-its-kind driving oriented institute in the state. The establishment will provide training to commercial drivers and to the individuals who own private vehicles, that too at a nominal fee.

Moreover, the construction of IDTR has already been completed along with the addition of state-of-the-art track automation inside the institute. This technology will help in recording and monitoring driving oriented data through time-based computer applications such as digital audio workstations and computer simulation softwares.
