Knocksense Shorts | Inspection deems Nishatganj bridge usable for light operations; to open soon

Jatin Shewaramani

Two days after the Nishatganj bridge route was halted for traffic movement, the authorities have completed the overall inspection of the foundation, pillars, route and bridge walls.

Reportedly, a team of engineers from Northern Railways, the Public Works Department and Bridge Corporation has thoroughly examined the damage. As per their report, the cracks which have occurred on the concrete structure are due to the poor maintenance of the bridge.

On the other hand accumulation of rust has also been reported on the metal girders supporting the bridge near the railway track. The NER department will soon start working on repairing the columns.

Overall the damage has been deemed to be of non-severe nature. Incidentally, it is expected that the bridge will become accessible for light vehicular operations within the upcoming few days, while PWD continues to work on repairing the concrete sections.
