Lucknow News | RMLIMS Director Prof Soniya Nityanand appointed as KGMU's 12th vice-chancellor

Professor Soniya Nityanand, an alumna of KGMU, will be only the second woman to hold the post of the medical university's VC.

Lucknow's prestigious King George’s Medical University (KGMU) has got its new vice-chancellor in the form of an alumna. Professor Soniya Nityanand, current director of the eminent Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, has been appointed as VC and is only the second woman to hold the post.

An official order, by Governor Anandiben Patel, was issued that stated Professor Nityanand will be serving for a period of three years as KGMU VC.

With this, Dr Nityanand will become the 12th VC of the medical university and will be replacing current KGMU VC Lt Gen (Dr) Bipin Puri. Dr Puri will complete his term as he retires on August 9.

Dr Nityanand pursued her graduation and post graduation both from KGMU. “It’s a Ghar Wapasi for Prof Soniya Nityanand who has done her MBBS and MD from KGMU. We extend her all support and hope the campus will develop under her leadership,” Professor KK Singh, president of KGMU Teachers’ Association, said.

The current director of RML also headed the department of hematology at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) before joining Lohia.
