Initiating a new welfare program, it has been said that the Vice-Chancellor and other professors at Lucknow University will bear the educational expenses of students who have lost one or both parents to the pandemic. Under this scheme, the VC took the responsibility of one such student on Friday and requested other professors to take similar steps. As per reports, the Registrar, Chief Proctor and the Dean of the Students' Welfare Department will now bear expenses of one child each.

Around 70 students in the first list of beneficiaries

As per reports, VC Professor Alok Kumar convened a meeting of the working committee recently. There, the Dean of the Students' Welfare Committee, Dr. Poonam Tandon, informed that 70 pupils from the university have lost either one or both of their parents to the COVID virus. It has been stated that fees and other expenditures related to the education of such students shall be borne by various officials at the university.

The pandemic has wreaked unprecedented havoc in the lives of people across the city. Given the dire nature of the current circumstances, it is incumbent upon the authorities of various institutions to undertake such measures.

Additionally, the authorities also deliberated over the employment of dependents of the university staff, who succumbed to the pandemic. After the proper verification of eligible family members, they will be employed for different posts at the university, depending upon their qualifications.
