The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for rainfall and hailstorm in several UP districts including Lucknow for the next 48 hours.

Notably, IMD has identified a potential change in wind movements attributed to western disturbances. As a result, this is anticipated to affect several regions of India, including Northwestern, Eastern, Northeastern and Central areas, causing precipitation ranging from mild to severe, along with occurrences of thunderstorms and hailstorms.

IMD's safety advisory for March 31 & April 1

As per IMD's projections, there is a likelihood of forceful wind patterns in the area, which could lead to a decline in temperatures, in addition to the anticipated precipitation in various districts of Uttar Pradesh.

The department has issued a safety advisory due to the expected repercussions:

  • Strong wind/hail could lead to possible damage in plantation, horticulture and standing crops.

  • Given the potential harm that hail can cause to both individuals and livestock in exposed areas, the department has strongly recommended that people remain indoors during adverse weather conditions.

  • The department has also emphasized the importance of taking necessary precautions to protect the safety of cattle.

  • Thunderstorm and hail could lead to partial damage to vulnerable structures due to strong winds.
