The Lucknow Development Authority has finalised plans for a 180-metre pedestrian bridge across the Gomti River, designed to link both banks of the Riverfront. The project, themed on the famed quote “Muskuraiye, aap Lucknow mein hai”, will begin once it receives government approval. The project, along with surrounding beautification, will cost approximately ₹54 crore.

LDA conducted a national architectural design competition. Around 25 firms submitted entries, and a jury selected the winning design by RVEMP Studio, Mumbai. As per multiple reports, the Gomti Riverfront Pedestrian Bridge will take inspiration from Ahmedabad’s Atal Bridge.

The bridge aims to boost footfall along the right bank of the river, strengthening the appeal of existing facilities such as the cricket stadium, wedding venue, children’s play area, amphitheatre, floating restaurant and water sports zone.

Design & dimensions

The bridge will span 180 metres, with the total length extending to 380 metres when the ramp and platform are included. A width of 12 metres will allow easy pedestrian movement. Its structure will stand on 13 piers, with 30-metre and 40-metre span plate girders providing dedicated viewing points over the Gomti. Steel tubular sections will form the edges.

The bridge will feature stamped concrete, GRC panels, granite and ACP panels. A tensile structure will provide roofing. Street lights, bollard lights and floor lighting will ensure the bridge remains well-lit and visually striking at night. Landscaping with ornamental plants and small flowering trees will add to the aesthetic appeal.
