Sahara Shahar, a prime location in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar, is back in focus with renewed discussions about building a new Vidhan Sabha complex on its land. Acting on government instructions, LDA has completed the month-long land survey and submitted its report to the state government.

The buzz intensified after the Lucknow Municipal Corporation cancelled the lease of Sahara City land on October 9. With the government seeking around 200 to 250 acres for a modern Vidhan Sabha campus, the 245-acre plot fits the requirement in terms of size, location and connectivity. 

Officials stated that at least 200 acres are needed to accommodate the Legislative Assembly and Council, chambers for ministers and MLAs, extensive parking, green belts and future expansion. Sahara City offers 45 acres more than the minimum requirement. 

LDA’s survey mapped boundaries, structures, encroachments and utility lines. According to the report, most of the land is vacant and level, with a safe buffer from the Gomti River. The location has direct access to Shaheed Path, Amar Shaheed Path and Hazratganj, and is 15-20 minutes from both the metro and the airport. 

However, there has been no formal announcement yet. A final decision will be taken after the survey report is reviewed.

Yet, as discussions gain momentum, an important question arises — with a fully functional Vidhan Sabha already in place, should a centrally located 245-acre land parcel be reserved for another government complex? Or could this prime space serve the public more meaningfully, perhaps by developing essential civic infrastructure, public facilities, or even transforming it into a major green lung to help improve Lucknow’s air quality?
