New UP DGP issues several directives on transparency, surveillance, and crime prevention

The new officiating Director of General of Police in Uttar Pradesh, Prashant Kumar, has gone straight to work with several new directives. These new directives focus on boosting crime prevention while enhancing the response time of UP Police.

With the implementation of these directives, the police force will have to ensure regular checks and verifications of history sheeters. Body-worn cameras are now mandatory for on-duty police officers, to boost transparency. The DGP has also instructed the officials to implement a zero tolerance policy for delayed response to any incident and conduct regular foot patrolling to ensure police presence in important areas and foster public interaction.

Furthermore, he has also asked the police personnel to become aware about preventive measures regarding cybercrime. It is noteworthy that IPS Prashant Kumar was appointed as officiating UP DGP on January 31, 2024.
