The Uttar Pradesh government is set to introduce new parking regulations, requiring residents in 17 cities, including Lucknow and Kanpur, to pay for overnight parking outside their homes. This measure aims to alleviate road congestion and enhance urban mobility.
Under "UP Municipal Corporation Parking Rules 2025", municipal corporations will reserve land for night parking and identify spots under flyovers for temporary parking during festivals and fairs. A 12-member committee, led by Municipal Commissioners, will identify parking zones within 90 days. PPP-model projects will develop multi-level parking hubs, including under flyovers, except green zones.
