Transport Department revs up security: Plans rollout of CCTV cameras in school vehicles across UP

Jatin Shewaramani

The UP state government has rolled out a revamped directive, emphasizing the imperative installation of CCTV cameras in school vans and buses operated by private schools. This mandate, initially outlined in the Uttar Pradesh Motor Vehicles Rules act of 1998, underwent an amendment on May 2, 2022. The government set a three-month compliance window for educational institutions within the state from the gazette's issuance date.

In response, a majority of private schools across the state have diligently adhered to the directive, ensuring the installation of cameras in their vans and buses. With the release of the updated notification, the concerned department is gearing up for rigorous enforcement drives in key cities, including Lucknow and Kanpur, to guarantee unwavering adherence to the stipulated guidelines.
