UP to come up with 'Metro lite' for Varanasi, Ayodhya and Mathura districts

The introduction of mass rapid transit systems has worked as a boon for multiple cities across India. Metro line connectivity not only helps in alleviating commuting problems but even has a significant impact on decongesting road networks and providing last-mile connectivity.

Owing to the same, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has proposed an extensive plan to introduce metro connectivity in Ayodhya, Mathura and Varanasi. As per the plan, the services will be introduced as the 'Metro lite', which will be a miniature version of metro, covering limited parts of the city.

Expansion of Lucknow metro's east-west corridor also in plans

Reportedly, the districts are prominent religious spots of the state and authorities are expecting a high influx of domestic and international visitors in the coming years.

Aimed to boost tourism and to provide a longstanding solution in the aforementioned districts, UPMRC has prepared a detailed presentation by marking parts of the cities that require metro access.

Furthermore, planning for the construction of Lucknow's east-west corridor and new metro lines in Gorakhpur, Jhansi, Bareilly and Meerut is also underway.
