Apple Watch's LTE functionality comes in clutch.

They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away, and it seems all kinds of apples work. Coming to the rescue of 17 year old Smit Metha who hails from Maharashtra's Raigad district, an Apple Watch just saved the day. Mehta is crediting his Apple Watch for saving his life when he met with a fatal accident during a trek in Lonavala earlier this year.

Teen uses Apple Watch’s LTE feature to call for help

The incident took place in July when Smit Mehta, who was preparing for the NEET exam in Pune, planned a trip to Lonavala to trek along with his friends. On the way back, Mehta lost his balance and fell 130-150 ft. deep in a valley. He somehow survived but dislocated both his ankles.

With no one nearby to ask for help, Mehta used the only device he had, an Apple Watch Series 7. Thanks to the built-in cellular connectivity, Mehta was able to call his parents and ask for help. The rescue team was then called and with the help of a few trekkers, Smit Mehta was safely pulled out. Later, he was transferred to an orthopaedic hospital in Pune.

It sounds like a terrible accident. Thanks so much for sharing your story with us. I wish you a full and speedy recovery.
