To revive Cooperage Ground, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has invited bids for the installation of Mumbai’s first-ever horse carousel in South Mumbai. As per reports, BMC has already issued an Expression of Interest (EOI), inviting bidders for the same. The ₹1.50-crore project aims to enhance the park’s appeal and revive its legacy as a popular recreational spot.

Carousel details & project model

The carousel will have a seating capacity of 32 to 45 and will be operated under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. While BMC will provide the land, the successful bidder will be responsible for its operation and maintenance for seven years and must propose a viable revenue model.

A carousel, commonly known as a merry-go-round, features a rotating platform with seats shaped like horses, swans, or other animals, offering a classic amusement experience for visitors of all ages.

Restoring Cooperage Ground’s legacy

Cooperage Ground, formerly known as Ghoda Garden, was once a popular destination for horse rides. However, after an unfortunate incident led to the discontinuation of these rides, footfall gradually declined. The introduction of the horse carousel is expected to reignite the charm of the park and attract both local and international tourists.
