Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to begin construction of a new cable-stayed bridge connecting Goregaon to Andheri’s Oshiwara across the Goregaon Creek this November. Estimated at ₹418 crore, the project aims to ease traffic congestion across Mumbai’s western suburbs and is expected to be completed by October 2028.

A new artery for the Western Suburbs

Planned as a north–south link parallel to S.V. Road and Link Road, the upcoming bridge will serve as a crucial connector between two congested areas - Bhagat Singh Nagar in P/South ward (Goregaon) and Oshiwara in K/West ward (Andheri). The 542-metre-long structure will run along a 36.6-metre-wide DP Road, offering commuters an alternative route between Andheri, Oshiwara, Lokhandwala, and Goregaon.

First proposed in 2022, the project was delayed due to environmental clearances, as the bridge alignment crosses mangrove zones. However, Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) granted approval in May after the Bombay High Court permitted construction in the protected area.

Design & environmental sensitivity

Of the total 542 metres, the cable-stayed portion will stretch 238 metres. BMC opted for this design to minimise environmental impact, as it requires fewer piers, reducing disturbance to mangroves and natural waterways.

The bridge’s width of 28.55 metres will accommodate six lanes, with three carriageways on each side. It will also feature a 0.45-metre median and 1.5-metre-wide utility corridors along both carriageways.

Once operational, the Goregaon–Oshiwara bridge will offer a vital new corridor linking western suburbs, connecting the Link Road to the upcoming Mumbai Coastal Road (North). Beyond functionality, the design promises to be a striking addition to Mumbai’s skyline.
