Mumbai’s shores hide a vibrant marine world, and the India Intertidal Bioblitz is giving locals a chance to explore it! Organised by the Coastal Conservation Foundation (CCF) and East Coast Conservation Team (ECCT), this 10-day citizen science initiative, from January 26 to February 4, invites people to document coastal biodiversity.

Covering Mumbai, Goa, and Visakhapatnam, the event highlights tidepool ecosystems revealed at low tide. In Mumbai, experts are guiding participants—including zoology students, researchers, and marine enthusiasts—at spots like Haji Ali, Nepean Sea Road, and Carter Road.

So far, the bioblitz has led to fascinating finds, from a rare octopus sighting at Carter Road to the Cratena pawarshindeorum, a sea slug species unique to Haji Ali.

By logging discoveries on iNaturalist, this initiative not only aids research but also raises awareness about Mumbai’s rich coastal life. Keen to be part of it? Register via the host organisations’ Google form—it's free!
