Kindle your love for books at the free garden library at Dadar in Mumbai

Muskaan Tekwani

Flipping to a new chapter of Mumbai's civic development vis-a-vis use of open spaces and education, the BMC on Sunday inaugurated a free garden library at Dadar. This new facility is expected to rekindle children's love for reading and learning in the laps of nature. As per reports, the BMC plans on setting up a similar green library in each administrative ward in Mumbai in the coming months.

A wide range of books on offer!

Nestled in the lush green scapes of the B.N. Vaidya Garden in Hindu Colony, Dadar, the garden library has been set up using funds from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme. Interestingly, the location is right next to Rajgruha, the residence of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.

The garden library centre, notably, has books that cover various genres and topics to provide a dynamic reading range to young minds. From biography titles to books on history, nature, healthy lifestyle, slice of life, sports, and fiction have been placed here. Children can pick any book they like, free of cost, and venture into new interests as they read on.

Once the library picks up and sees regular or frequent visitors, more books will be added to its collection.

Other open, garden libraries in Mumbai

While the garden library brings the genre of novelty into Mumbai's way of life, there are other similar structures that have been providing scholastic benefits to the people, in open spaces. One can spot an open library at the Cooperage Bandstand Garden and yet another 50 seater one at Dr. R Borges road next to ITC Grand in Parel. A roadside free library in Mulund is also one of the city's fairy tales when it comes to books and reading.
