The administrative body of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) has decided to scrap the iconic Nilambari open-to-sky double-decker buses due to old age. These buses, which continue to be a people's favourite during monsoons and the festive season, will be taken off the Mumbai roads from October 5, 2023.

Initially, a total of five such buses used to operate in Mumbai, but currently only three Nilambari buses are left. Tourists coming to Mumbai still choose these buses to take a heritage tour of the Maximum City. And now, the remaining three of these iconic buses will also go off road from next month.

Furthermore, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) administrative body is also planning to organise a well-deserved farewell event for these buses.
