The Maharashtra government has given the nod to the project to build a new city, known as the 'Third Mumbai'. As part of these plans, a second BKC (Bandra Kurla Complex) will also be built in the Kharghar region of the metropolis.

The proposed second BKC in Mumbai will be built as an entirely commercial area, which will be aimed at attracting major Indian companies and MNCs. The overall 'Third Mumbai' is an attempt to provide better housing, infrastructure, and transport to the growing population of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
