Mumbai Metro Line 1 (Blue Line), the city’s first metro corridor, has completed 11 impactful years, revolutionising daily commute since its launch on June 8, 2014. The 11.4-km elevated Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar (VAG) line, developed under a pioneering public-private partnership (PPP) model, has ferried over 111 crore passengers, earning its place among the world’s busiest metro routes.

Built through India’s first public-private partnership between Reliance Infrastructure and MMRDA, Mumbai Metro One has operated over 12.66 lakh train trips and covered 1.45 crore kilometres to date. It has consistently delivered a stellar 99.99% punctuality rate. With 444 trips daily and an average weekday ridership of 5 lakh, it ranks among the world’s busiest metro corridors.

Spanning 12 stations, the Blue Line connects Mumbai’s eastern and western suburbs, cutting commute time from 90 minutes to just 21. Ghatkopar remains the busiest station with 30 crore commuters, followed by Andheri (23 crore) and Saki Naka (11 crore).

Seamlessly integrating with Metro Lines 2A, 3, and 7, Metro One continues to ease Mumbai’s transit challenges. Recognised with over 40 national and international awards for efficiency, innovation, and sustainability, it has become a vital urban lifeline, proving how smart infrastructure can transform city life.
