Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 record over 8 million ridership since their inauguration!

A significant milestone in Mumbai's public transportation system.

Reaching a significant milestone, Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 have jointly recorded more than 8 million passengers since their inauguration. Metro Line 2A with a length of 18.6 km, links Dahisar East to DN Nagar (yellow line), while Metro Line 7, covering 16.5 km, connects Andheri East to Dahisar East (red line).

Together, these two lines have become the choice of transportation for millions of commuters in Mumbai. Initiated in phases, these lines have recorded a cumulative ridership of 8,07,13,515 passengers from April 2022 to February 20, 2024.

5% monthly increase in Mumbai Metro ridership

Since the introduction of the second phase on January 20, 2023, till February 20, 2024, a staggering 7,17,48,370 passengers have traversed on these lines. This essentially marks a significant milestone in Mumbai's public transportation system.

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has further reported a steady 5% month-on-month increase in ridership, highlighting the growing popularity of these two-year-old services. On weekdays, an average of 2.30–2.35 lakh passengers travel via these trains, indicating their importance as a key mode of transportation in the city.

Moreover, as of February 20, 2024, a total of 1,85,345 passengers have availed themselves of the Mumbai–1 Card. This card facilitates convenient travel across the bustling city.

With 257 trips completed daily between 5:55 AM to 11:00 AM, the elevated Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7, continue to be a preferred mode of transportation for millions. They provide efficient connectivity and ease commuter woes.

MMRDA also tweeted about its ongoing efforts to expand and enhance the infrastructure. The officials emphasised on their commitment to providing secure, accessible, and eco-friendly transit alternatives. Additionally, the authorities expressed sincere appreciation to the people of Mumbai - thanking them for choosing environmentally friendly transportation methods.
